Drew University is seeking a General Maintenance Technician in the Facilities Department. This is a full-time, 40 hours a week position that works Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The General Maintenance Technicians (GMT) are the Facilities Department first responders for a variety of corrective and on-call work orders. Needs to be familiar with a variety of trades, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC as well as paving maintenance such as pothole repair and line striping.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Complete corrective work and repairs for all facility related assets. Respond to work orders.
  • Complete service work such as moving items. Install signs, decorations, and banners. Maintain fixtures, furniture, benches and trashcans. Perform preventative maintenance including inspections, drain maintenance, washers/dryers/vents, fleet and facility equipment maintenance.
  • Observe, identify, and report issues with the general condition of the University's buildings, assets, and site. Take ownership of issues and manage them through the correction action process.
  • Provide support and assistance during inclement weather events and emergencies.
  • Assist with event support, as needed.
  • Augment the services of the locksmith, custodial and grounds crews, when necessary.
  • Complete additional tasks on behalf of the University, as directed by the Facilities Management Leadership team.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, GED or Trade school, 3-5 years preferred.
  • Able to communicate through computer email, telephone voice mail systems, two-way radio systems and cell phone.
  • Normal mobility to move around construction sites.
  • Able to bend, stoop, twist, climb up and down ladders.
  • Able to lift and carry 50 pounds, including up and down stairs.
  • Strong English written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Willingness and ability to periodically work overtime hours and respond to emergency calls after hours/weekends.
  • The employee is subject to outside environmental conditions: protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Able to understand plans, design specifications, and manufacturer' instructions
  • Competency using tools and operating equipment
  • Able to drive an automobile, van, light truck or golf cart.
  • Good working knowledge of electrical and mechanical operations and functions
