Education Reporter-Omaha, NE
The Omaha World-Herald is seeking a dynamic education reporter to cover Nebraska's largest K-12 school district and statewide education news and trends.
This reporter should have the ability to not only cover breaking news but dive into the key issues and compelling people that drive education in the state.
The successful candidate will be able to highlight the diversity of the Omaha Public Schools, which educates nearly one in six of Nebraska's students, and the innovation in Omaha and the surrounding areas. While they will cover key meetings, this is not a meeting beat - we want a reporter who can tell us the why, the how, and the who, not just the what. This reporter should be able to develop sources and the beat with the knowledge that covering education is about students, families, finances, and the future. They will appreciate the opportunities digital news allows, while
The ideal candidate loves to dig into important stories with strong reporting and clear writing while keeping an appreciation for the learning moments that create joy. Ability to use data, speak Spanish, work collaboratively with other journalists and provide multimedia are pluses.
In a metro of nearly one million people, Omaha has a vibrant music and food scene, an explorable riverfront, unique neighborhoods, a growing population and is home to Fortune 500 companies.
