Job Description
General Description:
This position performs a variety of maintenance projects and preventative maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical, mechanical and carpentry. This is an entry to mid-level position.
Duties and Tasks:
Tasks may include the installation, repair and maintenance of multiple building systems.
Assist other trades, perform safety checks, emergency response, maintain and order supplies and perform other duties as assigned.
Performs inspections, repairs, and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
Able to determine equipment, parts, and supplies needed to complete assignments.
Completes work orders in a timely manner and records information in the computer maintenance management system.
Must report and be on campus during deemed weather-related events and emergencies to protect and restore campus grounds to operational condition, which may entail extended hours of work, snow and ice removal.
Inspect facilities daily report and conduct repairs or maintenance as needed.
Able to assist other trades (Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC) in performing duties as assigned by facilities manager.
May be required to work at other campus locations.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Required KSAs:
Ability to work with little or no supervision and make sound decisions independently.
Understand how to use a variety of hand tools and power tools properly and safely.
Able to work from ladders and scaffolds, to diagnose and repair a variety of building systems.
Ability to lift 75 lbs. on a regular basis.
Ability to function in close quarters, or cramped environment
Ability to read technical documents, drawings and blueprints.
Basic computer skills including Microsoft office suite.
Detail oriented
Possesses good communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Graduate or GED
Some experience in building trades ( electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry)
Valid Virginia driver’s license and insurable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
Some experience working in a commercial building setting
Some experience with a computerized maintenance management system.
Some experience working in a college setting
