Reference Specialist
General Description: Provide reference and circulation services and support additional library functions including collection development, outreach and marketing services.
Duties and Tasks:
- Manage the library reference desk and provide individualized and specialized reference services to library patrons
- Apply independent judgment and decision-making regarding library patrons and services
- Manage and maintain the library group study rooms; Provide circulation services
- Record and report reference statistics
- Assist in developing and maintaining the library collection using acquisitions tools and their associated vendors
- Troubleshoot library equipment and technology
- Coordinate and develop marketing content for social media and other marketing outlets and participate in other library outreach initiatives
- Serve on college/campus committees
- May lead or supervise students and volunteers
KSAs:
- Demonstrated knowledge of academic library operations, reference, and circulation services
- Demonstrated proficiency with current library systems and research resources
- Demonstrated technology skills and understanding of library technology applications
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work independently
- Excellence in decision-making and sound judgement
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and varying education levels
- Strong customer service skills
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in a library providing reference services
Preferred Qualifications:
- Academic library experience providing reference services.
- Advanced knowledge of ALMA, PRIMO, and/or Springshare products, GOBI, Library of Congress Classification System,
- Microsoft Office Suite, Video conferencing tools, PeopleSoft, Canvas, social media platforms, and library databases.
