Overview/Background about ISGMH
The Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing (ISGMH) is a university-wide institute dedicated to research that fosters understanding of the development and experiences of sexual and gender minority (SGM) individuals and improves the health and wellbeing of their communities. It currently has multiple NIH- and foundation-funded research studies and actively collaborates with community-based organizations to conduct research and translate findings into interventions. ISGMH utilizes innovative modalities to disseminate knowledge widely to the SGM community, the public at large, scholars, service providers, educators, and policymakers. Description of team/unit
The THRIVE Center within ISGMH conducts cutting-edge translational research that spans the spectrum from basic science discovery to intervention development and implementation. Its faculty and staff are national leaders in research on SGM adolescent and young adult sexual health and HIV/STI prevention, bisexual health, queer women's health, alcohol and drug use, mental health, and romantic relationships and intimate partner violence. The Research Data Analyst will be part of the Data Management and Analytics Core (DMAC) which is responsible for data lifecycle management of all of THRIVE's research projects.
Description of the role
The Research Data Analyst will work across multiple social, behavioral, and epidemiologic research projects focused on the health and development of sexual and gender minority youth. They will work closely with investigators and other study personnel to design and implement data management and analytic strategies that align with research objectives. Provides expertise in data management, quality assurance, analysis and reporting. Establishes data accuracy and validity derived from a variety of systems. Performs data analysis using statistical techniques. Researches and analyzes information using multiple databases and creates reports of data and results. Assists in the preparation and delivery of decision support reports to both internal and external customers. Designs data collection tools, performs data storage and de-identification procedures in accordance with institutional and national policies, assists with establishing, maintaining and sharing research data, and aids in research dissemination.
Expectations of the role
The Research Data Analyst is expected to be self-driven, detailed oriented, possess excellent organizational and communication skills, have the ability to work independently and have an interest and desire to develop new skills.
This role is expected to last until January 31, 2025, with the possibility of extension. This is a grant-funded position and continued employment is contingent upon the grant. Both in-person and fully remote work arrangements will be considered.
Specific Responsibilities:
Administration
- Develop standardized templates, policies, and procedures for internal and external reporting.
- Designs and prepares documentation for qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
- Discuss findings with senior management.
- Develop queries and quality metrics.
- Interprets results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation to more complex statistical analysis.
- Manages complex databases.
- Completes data cleaning and organizes data files for analysis.
- Reviews data and identifies quality issues.
- Presents findings in an appropriate manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
- 2 years data analysis/report writing or similar experience required.
- Good time management skills; efficient and resourceful in problem-solving; able to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to interact sensitively, effectively, and professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Clear and effective oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience programming surveys using computer assisted self-interviewing technology.
- Demonstrated experience using one or more statistical/programming software such as SPSS, SAS or R.
- Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, psychology or a related field or the equivalent combination and experience in statistics, data management and statistical data processing from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
- Two years of experience in research-related programming, data management and statistical data processing.
- Previous experience working in a biomedical, social science, or health science research field.
- Self-driven with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and guidance.
- Willingness to expand technical skills.
- Experience with REDCap for data collection.
- Technical proficiency with SAS.
