Job Description:


Basic Function and Responsibility:

Under general supervision, direct the operational activities and provide instructional support services in the Laboratory.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and/or direct staff and student employees in lab preparations for lab experiments.
  • Review experimental procedures and equipment with lab instructors.
  • Assist in coordinating lab schedules and experiments.
  • Assist students and instructors as necessary.
  • Develop budget requests, purchase and maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, and educational materials, examine bid specifications, and initiate request orders for supplies and equipment.
  • Initiate and supervise the maintenance and repair of lab equipment and instruments and initiate requests for supervise routine repairs of lab facilities, e.g., drains, faucets, etc.
  • Maintain the safety, security and cleanliness of assigned Oakton laboratory facilities.
  • Collect, organize and remove chemical wastes from the labs to a designated area. Maintain a list of chemical wastes.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's in Science with specific course work in Medical Laboratory Technology, Chemistry, or Biology or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is required.
  • Two years of related lab experience with supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to use special laboratory instruments, computers and google suite software. Position requires record keeping, equipment organization, and routine maintenance skills for smooth operation of laboratory activities.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Light lifting up to 10 lbs. and light carrying up to 10 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on both-Campus (Des Plaines and Skokie) and to visit off-Campus entities. Work is performed in a general office environment and is sedentary in nature. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions. At times odors may be present. Safe handling of chemicals is required at all times.

Supervision Received:

Administrative supervision is received from the Division Dean, Program Chair, and/or designated faculty member.

Supervision Exercised:

Functional supervision is exercised over two to four student employees.

Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have hybrid schedule options available after 30 working days.

HOURS: Monday - Friday 8:15 am - 5:00 pm

SALARY: $50,345

Out-of-State Employment Defined

Oakton College's primary location of operation is in the state of Illinois. An "out-of-state employee" is defined as an employee of Oakton College whose primary work location is outside of the state of Illinois. State taxes, employment tax, and worker's compensation provisions vary from state to state and require payroll compliance with these various rules.

Allowable States for Out-of-State Employment

All employees must maintain their primary residence in Illinois, Indiana, or a reciprocal state with Illinois. Reciprocal states include Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Illinois has tax agreements with these reciprocal states. Employees may have their primary residence in Indiana since Indiana is adjacent to Illinois.
