Job Description:


Basic Function and Responsibility:

Under general supervision, provide short-term counseling and crisis intervention for students, and consultation to faculty and staff regarding student issues and concerns.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide short-term counseling for Oakton students and make appropriate referrals for students in need of more intensive mental health needs.

2. Participate in On-Call system and respond to student crises.

3. Provide training for faculty and staff related to working with students in distress.

4. Maintain counseling files, adhering to professional standards.

5. As directed, provide Counseling Services in the Enrollment Center.

6. Plan and conduct programs to prevent substance abuse or improve community health and counseling services.

7. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Dean of Counseling, Health and Wellness..

Supervision Received:

General supervision is received from the Dean of Counseling, Health and Wellness.

Supervision Exercised:

Functional supervision may be exercised over student employees.


Requirements:


Qualifications and Working Conditions:

1. Master's degree is required, preferably in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field.

2. Licensed eligible, preferably LCSW or Licensed Psychologist

3. One or more years of successful counseling experience, preferably in a college setting, is necessary.

4. A high level of interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to write and present educational programs and to make presentations to large groups. Incumbent must be able to give and receive advice and opinions and interact with individuals in situations requiring sensitivity and tact.

5. Ability to work flexible hours including some evening hours consistent with student needs is necessary.

6. Ability to utilize a keyboard to enter, maintain and manipulate data in a personal computer is required.

7. General office environment. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.


Additional Information:


9am -5:00pm, 1 evening until 7:00 40 hours per week

$36.35 hourly
