Overview

Princeton University Library is seeking a Bibliographic Specialist II to join its Cataloging and Metadata Services team (CaMS). CaMS is a multidisciplinary group of talented individuals working collaboratively to support the research of the Princeton University community. This includes providing efficient, thorough, and accurate access to the Library's holdings in many formats and languages.

Princeton University Library is one of the world's leading research libraries, supporting a diverse community of 5,200 undergraduates, 2,700 graduate students, 1,200 faculty members, and many visiting scholars. Its holdings include more than 7 million printed volumes, 85 thousand manuscripts, 2 million non-print items, and extensive collections of digital text, data, and images.

The Library employs a dedicated and knowledgeable staff of more than 300 staff working in a large central library, 9 specialized branches, and 3 storage facilities. This position will be located in the Library's off campus office.



Responsibilities

  • Activating, adding, maintaining, and troubleshooting e-resource records in Alma, the Library's Integrated Library System.
  • Solving serial problems and answering serial questions, especially e-journal and Alma problems/questions submitted via the LibAnswers ticketing system.
  • Cataloging new print and e-serials, including identifying and cataloging title changes when necessary.
  • Adding new volumes of print serials in Alma, reviewing and updating bibliographic, holdings, and item records as appropriate.
  • Assisting with the management of ebook (monographs) bibliographic collections in Alma.


Qualifications

  • Minimum one-year library experience.
  • Ability to identify Western languages other than English.
  • Ability to perform detailed analytical work with bibliographic descriptions of serials and electronic resources (e.g., ebooks).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of library staff in written and oral form.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other members of the team.
  • Ability to manage time and projects effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • One-year library work experience specifically with serials and e-resources.
  • Experience working with cataloging modules in an integrated library system such as Alma, in addition to OCLC (via OCLC Connexion and/or WorldShare).
  • Working knowledge of the MARC format and bibliographic standards (RDA, AACR2), cataloging rules for inputting and formatting of bibliographic data.
