Job Summary:
The Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Regis College, within Regis University, invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Choral Activities to start in August 1, 2024. The department is seeking a Choral Conductor who is a dedicated music educator to recruit for our music program, teach undergraduate choir, and courses in the college liberal arts core. Major Duties and Responsibilities:

About Regis University and the Fine & Performing Arts Department: We welcome candidates who bring diverse cultural, ethnic, and religious perspectives to their teaching and scholarship. Our department operates within Regis College which serves a diverse student population. As of fall 2020, 37.4% of our total student body identified as non-white and within that population 23.5% identify as Hispanic/Latino/a/x. Our fall 2020 First-Year class consisted of 55% of students who identified as non-white and 38.75% students who identified as Hispanic/Latino/a/x. Regis College is a small, teaching focused, liberal arts college housed within Regis University. We are located in North Denver just minutes from the Denver Center for the Performing Arts downtown. Our undergraduate student population has roughly 1750 students. Class sizes range from 15-25 students with our choirs ranging from 12-30 singers. The Department of Fine and Performing Arts includes the Music Program, the Visual Art Program and offers undergraduate Bachelor of Arts majors and minors in Music (Performance, Music History, Music Theory, Composition), Visual Art, Art History. Interdisciplinary collaboration is strongly valued in our department. The majority of students we serve as a department are non-majors taking music (performance and scholarly) and art courses. Therefore, applicants must be excited to work with a variety of knowledge sets and ability levels.

Our Term Instructor of Choral Activities will have a great deal of autonomy in shaping the Choral, Voice, and Music Education areas of study. The search is open to all specializations within Choral Studies, but we would particularly welcome a candidate with a dual background in Choral Studies and Music Education, with experience in music student recruiting. This position will suit a choral conductor who identifies as an educator excited to create a choral community for the liberal arts student.

Position Responsibilities: This position will involve teaching a full load of undergraduate courses each semester. The teaching load is typically 3 fall-semester courses and 3 spring-semester courses. Summer courses are available to teach for extra compensation, but not required. Service-related responsibilities include: attending program/department meetings, recruiting students into the Music Program from area high schools, oversee the voice area of our program, advising music majors for both coursework and recital planning, and providing service to the university. While Regis values research (and a record of sustained scholarship is required for tenure), a commitment to inclusive teaching is essential; the candidate must demonstrate the skills to work effectively with racially, socioeconomically, and religiously diverse student populations. Experience or interest in supporting student scholarship, collaborative research/performance would also be welcome.

RCC 4XX Integrative Core Course (interdisciplinary courses in Music in the categories of Diversity, Environment, Justice, or Meaning

Required Qualifications:

Doctoral Degree in Choral Studies or related terminal degree with Choral Emphasis completed by August 1, 2024 and/or College teaching experience.
Active engagement with scholarly choral research and/or performance.
Evidence of an engaged understanding of foundational vocal pedagogy, and the choral literature from a diversity of cultures and times in history.

Desired Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience in college-level music program recruiting.
Evidence of engagement in Music Education (K-12).
Background in, or dedication to, mentoring and teaching students from diverse demographics or backgrounds.
College level teaching experience is preferred but not mandatory.
