Senior Maintenance Mechanic

Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Maintenance Mechanic. The primary schedule for this position is 11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
Primary Job Duties: Conducts scheduled and unscheduled inspections of buildings and equipment. Performs comprehensive and routine preventive maintenance and repair activities to mechanical systems and structural compents of buildings and equipment. Performs routine and emergency repairs including correcting minor electrical malfunctions, repairing basic plumbing fixtures, pipes and fittings, repairing and replacing light fixtures, repairing doors and locks, changing filters, belts, and hoses. Responds to all related repair requests and troubleshoots problems and serves as first responder to building facility service calls of all types, including fire alarm, security/lock issues, leaks, power losses, etc. Assists in the preparation of various building components and systems for trades units and/or contractors; disassembles and installs equipment and fixtures. Repairs equipment such as power tools, fans, pumps, electric motors, light fixtures, toilets and sinks. Inspects mechanical and structural components; Operates and ensures operational readiness and safety of tools, equipment, and building components and determines required repairs. Ensures adequate supplies, materials and equipment are maintained in assigned areas. Cleans work area upon completion of project. Assists journey level trades personnel in skilled maintenance and repair work; assists in new construction and renovation work. May have lead responsibility for special projects.
Minimum Qualifications: Four years of related work experience. Must possess a valid non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license with 5 or less points for moving violations. Must possess or be able to possess within 6 months, a valid certified pool operator’s license (CPO).
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: General knowledge of and skill in a variety of semi-skilled building construction or maintenance and repair practices, and techniques used in the trade areas where assigned; of safety practices and procedures related to the assigned trade areas. Working knowledge and skill in the use of tools and equipment of the trade; Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to communicate effectively; to complete accountability logs, work order forms, and prepare reports; to make adjustments, repairs and replacements to building fixtures and mechanical equipment; to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment or machinery; to work at heights up to 35 feet; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment; Possess strong analytical, interpersonal, and customer services skills.
Preferred Qualifications: High school diploma/GED
The position is full-time, non-exempt State positions with full benefits. Starting salary will be $17.94 per hour which is approximately $37,418 annually with a 2.5% increase for new hires and promotions after six-month probation is satisfactorily satisfied. The primary schedule for this position is 11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. with rotating weekends required. The schedule associated with this position is eligible for shift differential of an additional $1.20 per hour. This position is considered essential and will be called upon to provide emergency coverage when necessary.
