The SUNY Rochester EOC (REOC) has been an established adult educational facility in the city of Rochester NY for over 50 years. Conveniently located in Downtown Rochester, the REOC has earned the reputation as one of the outstanding Centers in the state. REOC employees collaboratively provide skill and academic training necessary for students to continue to college or obtain a career. REOC has a strong connection to both SUNY Brockport and the University Center for Academic and Workforce Development. REOC is one of ten Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) and two Career Counseling and Outreach Centers located throughout New York State, each with a commitment to supporting a diverse and inclusive workforce and student population. Job Summary:
There are currently multiple openings for our Facility Operations Assistant 1 title. These titles perform routine maintenance and repair work at REOC and surrounding grounds using the appropriate tools and equipment. Perform other maintenance tasks such as collecting and disposing of trash, mowing lawns, and snow removal by shovel or powered snow removal equipment. The Facility Operations Assistant 1 will perform a variety of routine unskilled and semiskilled manual tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center (REOC) building, surrounding grounds, and the vehicles and equipment used in maintaining the site.

Job Functions:
  • Set up chairs, podiums and related equipment for conferences, seminars and special events; and loads, unloads and assembles furniture and equipment as assigned.
  • Perform routine and unskilled work such as carrying supplies and equipment, erecting ladders and scaffolding, cleaning, flushing and repairing drains, painting, loading and unloading trucks, performing rough carpentry and masonry work, and cleaning the work site after repair work is completed.
  • Clean REOC facility, to include but is not limited to: vacuuming, mopping, and waxing floors; empty trash receptables; washing restrooms and fixtures within, dusting and polishing wood and metal fixtures.
  • Perform a variety of routine building maintenance tasks such as unclogging toilets and sinks and changing light bulbs and tubes.
  • May travel to other offices within the State or facility to pick-up or move equipment, supplies or persons.
  • Move heavy supplies, furniture, and equipment.
  • Performs general grounds maintenance tasks such as clearing site, raking or tilling soil, mowing lawns, cutting brush and wood, trimming and removing trees and shrubs, maintain REOC parking lots and sidewalks, remove snow, trash and other obstructions from the property.



Minimum Qualifications:
There are no education or experience qualifications for this class. Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • HVAC experience
  • Basic electrical, plumbing and mechanical knowledge
  • Good communication/customer service skills


    Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 1:30pm - 10:00pm
    Salary and Benefits:
    $35,177
