The College of Engineering is undergoing an exciting period of significant growth, related in part to the university joining the Big Ten Conference in 2011. The college has hired more than 75 new faculty in the last five years and plans to continue expanding the number of faculty in the coming years. The college boasts over 230 faculty, serving programs on the City Campus and East Campus in Lincoln and the Scott Campus in Omaha. The UNL College of Engineering is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty and seeks to attract and retain a high performing and diverse workforce in which employees’ differences are respected and valued to better meet the varying needs of the diverse populations we serve.
The College of Engineering is particularly focused on several areas of major interdisciplinary initiatives of focus including Advanced Materials and Manufacturing; Biomedical Engineering and Health Care Environments; Energy Materials and Energy Systems; Engineering in Agriculture, Life Sciences, and Natural Resources; National Defense and Security; Transportation and the Built Environment; and Discipline Based Engineering Education.
Numerous opportunities for collaborations across the University of Nebraska exist, including with the University of Nebraska Medical Center; the Nebraska Center for Energy Sciences Research; the Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience; the Center for Nanohybrid Functional Materials; the Center for Electro-Optics and Functionalized Surfaces; the Nebraska Transportation Center and Midwest Roadside Safety Facility; Center for Brain, Biology, and Behavior; the Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory; Nebraska Innovation Campus; and other state- and federally-funded research centers and programs. World-class computational capabilities are available in the Holland Computing Center, which manages supercomputing facilities as well as other resources available to University of Nebraska researchers.
