DEPARTMENT/DIVISION DESCRIPTION:

Pediatric Pathology, Department of Pathology, UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP).

The UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh has 313 licensed beds: and over 13,000 admissions per year.

The John G. Rangos Sr. Research Center is a 300,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility on our campus, housing a large group of researchers and academic Departments performing world-class research.

The Anatomic Pathology section is staffed by six faculty members and has extensive subspecialty support from members of other divisions in the Department of Pathology of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

The Dept. of Pathology at UPMC has a well-established Molecular and Digital Pathology infrastructure and resources. There is ongoing investment in Digital Pathology Image Analysis and algorithms, as well as AI applications in Pathology. The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership and guidance to develop and leverage diagnostic and research initiatives using available resources.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

The Department of Pathology at CHP handles approximately 10,000 Surgical Pathology accessions, 1,500 cytological specimens, and 35-40 pediatric autopsies per year. The Dept. of Pathology has 6 faculty members.

Material ranges from routine cases to cases of the highest complexity of pediatric disease.

The Department has an ACGME-accredited fellowship program in Pediatric Pathology, which emphasizes academic work with the fellows and requires faculty mentoring.

JOB DUTIES

As the chief of Pathology, oversee the functioning of the Anatomic and Clinical Pathology operations at CHP. Work closely with the system Ex. Vice-Chairs for Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.

Represent the Dept. at various levels/ committees at CHP.

Represent the Dept. nationally and internationally.

Mentor faculty and provide oversight for the deliverance of the mission and goals of the Dept.

Teach Ped. Pathology fellows and Pathology residents.

Sign out of surgical pathology cases, and review cytological specimens, and pediatric autopsies as needed.

Participate in research initiatives as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have an M.D./M.D., Ph.D., D.O. degree or equivalent.

Board certification is required in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, or Anatomic Pathology

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The individual will be a full-time faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh and a participant in the UPMC/UPP faculty practice plan. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
