JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Associate Director of Academic Success provides daily direction and manages the implementation of the overall retention and academic support service for the Office of Student Success. This position oversees the resources, services, and programs to positively impact the retention and on-time graduation of students by maximizing the learning and adjustment of students to the demands of the health science educational environment. The position works in partnership with other administrative, academic, and support offices on campus and across the state along with student groups in promoting academic success of UTHSC students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Establishes and maintains relationships with colleges and programs at UTHSC to identify needs and appropriate services for students.

2.Leads Learning Specialist in collaborative development of effective outreach and retention services and programs.

3.Collaborates with campus pathway programs to provide coaching, programming, and support to underrepresented students in the health sciences.

4.Benchmarks and assesses program goals and outcomes in alignment with best practices in higher education and in health science centers that impact retention and success.

5.Manages campus-wide tutoring program and provides oversight to the Tutoring Coordinator in coordinating the program including progress, quality, program evaluation, tutor feedback and impact on academic program and success of tutees.

6.Designs and develops assessments, program evaluations, and surveys to assess students' needs.

7. Oversees and establishes programs to effectively identify student academic and learning needs as identified through student surveys feedback and individual student consultations.

8. Collaborates with the AVC and academic success staff to assure consistency in quality services and effective communication.

9. Provides business manager with expense summary and fiscal year projections.

10.Conducts impact and process evaluations to assess the institutional effectiveness of academic support services and implements changes in service delivery as needed.

11. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications :

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Education, Higher Education, or related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of professional experience in a university setting providing student or adult educational services; OR a Bachelor’s Degree and six (6) years of professional experience in a university setting providing student or adult educational services. (Supervisory experience required.)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· Ability to be versatile, flexible, and attuned to the changing needs of a diverse student environment.

· Ability to connect and establish relationships with students from different backgrounds and with varied academic experiences.

· Strong written and oral presentation skills.

· Skills in the area of data collection, analysis, assessment, and identifying opportunities for the use of data.

· Ability to develop interactive and engaging presentations and educational materials and resources.

· Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

· Knowledge of successful board/licensure preparation strategies and programs.

· Strong coaching skills and knowledge of best practices in coaching.

· Ability to establish strong relationships with faculty and staff across campus.

· Ability to plan, organize and coordinate events and programs.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and frequent evenings. This position may require overnight travel.
