Job Summary
Candidate must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients being seen in the integrated sports/spine program. The individual must demonstrate knowledge and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described above.
Responsibilities
1. Evaluation and treatment in sports/spine care.
2. Will work closely with, and under the supervision of, a Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) physician.
3. Take complex medical histories on patients for consultation by academic and community physicians.
4. Order consultations and interact with members of other specialty medical teams, particularly neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery.
5. Perform physical examinations on new and return spine patients.
6. Order laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures.
7. Perform trigger point injections, bursa injections as needed for treatment of related pain disorders.
8. Monitor dosages and adjust medications.
9. Order and supervise the administration of physical therapy.
10. Reach tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions.
11. Develop treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management.
12. Counsel patients and families about health wellness, illness and maintenance.
13. Participate in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
14. Willingness to participate in quality improvement activities.
15. May assist in research projects.
16. Participates in special projects and committee functions.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
Current licensure to practice as a Physician's Assistant from the State of Utah.
Preferred
Utah State prescriptive privilege preferred.
Certification in ACLS/ BLS/ NRP/ ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
To obtain licensure requires graduation from an AMA approved Physician Assistant program. Specialty experience is preferred on a position-by-position basis.
UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
