Chief Purpose of this position:
A post-doctoral position is available immediately to study the role of ion channels in lung cancer in the laboratory of Dr. Robert Winn at VCU Massey Cancer Center. The candidate must have a PhD at the time of appointment in cancer molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related field. The research focus of Dr. Winn's lab is to understand the basic
biological mechanisms of dysregulated ion channels in lung cancer initiation and progression using in-vitro assays and in vivo animal models.
Position responsibilities:
Overall Research – Work closely with Dr. Winn and his team using molecular biological techniques to better understand the cellular biology of ion channels in lung cancer cells and tumors with the following criteria:
- Able to design experiments and manage research project.
- Prepare, collect, and analyze research data produced from various cell culture treatments and approaches related to cancer biology (e.g., tissue culture, cloning, immunoblotting, qPCR, imaging, flow cytometry, etc.).
- Supervise and assist animal technician and laboratory personnel to coordinate research efforts.
- Develop and implement new laboratory techniques when needed to test hypotheses and approach research questions.
- Present scientific work at research conferences/symposiums
- Write research articles as first-author and participate in other publications as co-author.
- Assist with grant preparation and reports to generate grant funds.
- Able to work independently as well as demonstrate ability to work professionally and efficiently within the research group as a team player.
- Other duties may also be assigned.
