We are seeking applicants for an open rank, 12-month, term faculty position in the Department of Radiation Sciences' diagnostic medical sonography program. The program clinical coordinator will utilize experience in clinical radiologic sciences and educational methodologies to provide classroom and experiential teaching (i.e., laboratory and clinical courses) to a diverse student body. Faculty is expected to conduct service in support of the Department, College and University.
Position Responsibilities:
- Teaching
- Develop and present coursework in the sonography program and core radiation science courses.
- Pursue excellence by utilizing appropriate teaching strategies.
- Develop course objectives, content collaboration with the department chair and in accordance with the program goals.
- Coordinate clinical education with didactic education as assigned by the program director
- Actively participate in course and curricular evaluation and development.
- Research
- Contribute to the department's research and scholarship profile.
- Service
- Actively participate in department, college, and/or university committees as needed.
- Serve in professional organizations (e.g., reviewer, conference organizer, etc.).
- Advise students, maintain student records.
- Effectively communicate within and outside the department in order to achieve programmatic goals.

- Liaison between existing/potential clinical affiliates and the DMS program director/DMS students to:
- Maintain strong working relationships through effective and routine communication
assure student's clinical requirements are fulfilled. - Assure all clinical affiliates are have a thorough understanding of the clinical documentation system (eValue).
- Maintain strong working relationships through effective and routine communication
- Develop and distribute clinical rotation schedules for students.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by the Clinical Handbook.
- Routinely conduct clinical site visits, document communication, visits, and correspondences in a timely fashion.
- Evaluate and ensure the effectiveness and equitability of clinical experiences for concentrations students are enrolled in.
- Provide clinical instruction and document the evaluation and progression of clinical performance leading to clinical competence.
- Report student progress and clinical concerns to the program director on a regular basis.
- Seek to establish and/or maintain clinical sites to support growth of the DMS program.
- Participate and record minutes during DMS advisory board meetings.
- Participate in student recruitment via interview processes for admissions.

Required Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree at the time of hire (candidates without a graduate degree will be required to obtain a degree within 5 years of hire).
- Certification in in sonography (RDMS or ASRT).
- 2 years of clinical experience in sonography.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Documented experience in supervision, instruction, evaluation, student guidance, and in educational theories and techniques as a collegiate educator in Sonography.
- Multiple professional certifications (e.g., Abdomen, Ob/GYN, MSK, Vascular, etc.).
- History of professional service and research.
- Graduate degree.
